Why can’t I unassign a license from a project?

To support our licensing policy of one license per production instance, Amasty limits how many times a license can be removed/reassigned from a project. Each product license has a limited number of unassign actions available. By default, a license can be unassigned up to 2 times.

What is considered an “unassign”?

An unassign is any action that removes a license from a project.

This includes:

  • Removing a license from a project

  • Reassigning a license to another project (since it is automatically removed from the current one)

How can I see how many unassign actions are left?

When assigning licenses, you will see the following message:

“License unassign available: X.”

Where X shows how many times the license can still be removed from a project.

What happens when the limit is reached?

When the limit is reached, you will see the following notification:

“The unassign limit has been reached. You can no longer unassign this item.”

At this point:

  • You cannot remove the license from the project

  • You cannot move it to another project

However, you can still:

  • Add unassigned licenses to projects

  • Use other available actions such as upgrades or transfers, when applicable.

  • Request product reuse for another Magento instance (see the Product reuse request section below)

Product reuse request

If the unassign limit for a product has been reached, you can request to reuse the product for another Magento instance.

To do this, make sure the product is no longer used in the current Magento instance, and submit a support request with the required details.

Your request should include:

  • Product name

  • The name of the production project where the product was originally used, along with the reason for reuse

  • The System Instance Key from the Admin panel of the current Magento instance associated with the product

  • The System Instance Key from the Admin panel of the Magento instance where you want to install the product
